THE ARTIST

My name is kristoff cooney... most people in the digital world know me as computerologist or olo... sometimes co2. i have been designing digital art for about 8 months and love it.

THE PSEUDONYME

Well its really an uninteresting story.. but here goes. one of my dear friends... we’ll call her… hmm… (ologygurl) anyway… she had this thing… every class of a certain professor she took, she always wanted to be the ologist of that field… example… she took a sex class… she wanted to be a sexologist… sociology class… she wanted to be a sociologist… etc... etc… well one evening we were out and (ologygurl) was talking about her new current ology that she was itching for... and my best friend and I just laughed at her like always… and ended up saying that I guess I was a “computerologist” then… (at the time this was meant as a joke... but it seems that it is now a real term being used for people in my field... hehe... go figure) and well… I think she hit us… but still, it stuck... and I have been that ever since.

THE WEBSITE

Hmm… my site… i basically started it just so I would have a place to put my artwork..and some of my thoughts and interests…I wanted people to laugh and find interesting things that make them have a reason to come back once in a while..so I added the ask me anything section…I have gotten some of the most obscure questions. I think the site has been through about 15 facelifts since I started it back in august or something..and is always going under more I don’t know what has given my site the popularity it has but I’m glad I get all the visitors I do.

THE INFLUENCE

Jens karlsson… he was the reason I started to do digital art in the first place… after seeing some of the things he did with it… it made me really want to start designing… and other people keep me striving to do better as well..other artists that I see and talk with…it can really make a difference in your art.

INSPIRATION

Inspiration?... everything... i walk down the street and i'm like... hey... look at those colours or i wonder if i can make that... walking thru life has seemed to become an intricate classroom where i'm always looking at things, noticing lighting changes... effects... textures, colours... its really made the world a more vibrant and alive place for me. And music also inspires and influences my design.

THE STYLE

Again… this one kind of eludes me… from what I understand from other people talking about it… I would assume its smooth, shiney, glassy spikey, swirly stuff hehehe… but as far as me… I don’t really know that I stick to a style… everything I make is experimentation for me… so the similarities escape me.

THE SKINNING VIEWS

I’m not real sure about this one… since before may 01' I wasn’t a part of it… I’ve been asked several times if I had given thought to skinning aps, it is something I have considered… but really don’t even know where I would begin.

THE MUSIC

I really listen to quite a variety of music … everything from frank sinatra, to rage against the machine… but when I’m designing I usually stick to trance... like paul oakenfold, ferry corsten... but I have been known to design to disturbed and korn etc. as well.

THE MOVIES

Well..this could be a long list …but I’ll try and keep it semi short…basically I like what entertains and intrigues me.

  • Swimming with sharks
  • The usual suspects
  • Office space
  • Army of darkness
  • The matrix
  • Braveheart
  • High fidelity
  • Grosse point blank
  • The professional
  • Dogma
  • A knights tale

... just to name a few

Do you create for yourself or for an audience?

I definitely create for me… and I share it with others… I know there are some people that enjoy what I do and that makes me happy… but my art is for me... unless I’m requested to design something for someone else.

FAVORITE WEBSITES

IS THERE REALLY SUCH A THING AS PORNOGRAPHY?

Hehehe….hmm…I don’t see anything wrong with it… people enjoying themselves and each other… more power to it. As far as whether or not it exists… i think that depends on the part of the world you live in. and where you draw the line between form, beauty, art and sex.

FAVORITE ARTISTS

Hmm... this a very broad subject so I’m only going to list a few of my favorites… i really admire many different styles of art… Jen’s karlsson, andreas lindholm, van gogh, ansel adams, da vinci, Picasso… there are so many… but I don’t want to fill this page.

Moral issues which constrain your creativity

None that I can think of… art isn’t something I think of as being moral or immoral… so not making something simply because it just might happen to bother someone would go against designing art in the first place… its about expression… and if you hold back, then you aren’t expressing.

One favorite work and an in-depth explanation or thoughts behind that work

it would have to be epicycloid anomaly. that one was really a turning point in my design style, it was the beginning of the style i currently use... however when i first rendered it... i absolutely hated it... the colors were all wrong... it was just too shiny... then i took into photoshop and did a couple things with it... just proves that everything has potential and beauty even if you don't see it at first.

One artwork for your 'little olo'..?

all of it he's probably the one person i try to impress other than myself but he likes most of my art... but if it were just one... i'd pick his favorite it is one of my more recent pieces called oculus venestas... he told me if he didn't already have some digimon wallpaper that he would want that one on his computer hehe... i ALMOST won but now he's moving on to doing his own photoshop work... i wish i had his vision in photoshop when i was 7.

Your top three sexiest women, olo?

i only get to pick three? that could be very difficult... i find beauty in so many different types of women... girls in glasses and short messy hair i'd say would win. but as far as picking three of my top... i don't know... but here are three that i do find amazing.

Shannon Sossoma
Piper Perabo
Amanda Peet

If you weren't 'photoshopping' what would you be doing?

Going out... i'm rarely at home as it is... if i'm not at work i'm out with friends, hitting the clubs, having dinner... or mountain biking... just whatever makes me smile. so my real design time is in the wee hours of the morning.

WRAP UP WORDS

Advice... hmmm... basically... don't give up... and keep striving to achieve what you are looking for. even if you feel blocked sometimes... don't worry it will come back... just follow your visions.
