BREED ORIGINS
BreedArt.org

Who started BREED?

revo

Well, Breed was actually a merge between two former art groups, Colorfast and the other of which I can't remember the name. This all happened in 1999 as most of the underground art scene was dying. The first Breed released four art packs before itself died. About a year and a half later Revolution brought three former members of the group back together to form the current Breed.

Why start an art group?

revo

I started the group for several reasons... fun and recognition mainly. Not recognition for myself, but to help other artists get out in the open.

There's a lot of pluses to being in a group. It's like having a mini-community. You meet people, chat, learn new things, etc. A lot of people that are in Breed have never been in an art group before and I think that they now (hopefully =D) realize the point of an art group

Problems during the first few months?

revo

There were plenty. One thing, getting members. I think I was in #Devart and #Hirez(on EFNet) for about 8 hours 7 days a week trying to recruit people to join Breed. When I finally got the members, I had to make sure there was no fighting and everybody was cool with each other. Then finding a host, designing the web site.

The biggest problem Breed encountered during its life is power. When I began to lose time, I had to find somebody that would be able to run it as well as I could, if not better. This was hard. I think I went through 3 people until I found the right one, which turned out to be Scree. Scree deserves a lot of credit for Breed's current status today.

Can you give us a short history of the inflow/outflow of members?  What causes members to leave, return... and join?

bryan

Breed is ever evolving and adapting to the changes in our members lives. Occasionally artists find they've taken on too much and leave the group on their own knowing they can't contribute to us. Others who don't recognize their own inactivity are politely asked to leave, it's usually when we notice more people have left then joined that we conduct artist-recruitment searches.

We had a very large group of inactive members up until the 11th or 12th release. At this point we cracked down and cleaned up the group. We dropped members who didn't release anything for awhile and we did a huge search for fresh talent. Some of the names that came up in this search included but are not limited to the following: JackDirt, Naomi, x0rcist, Sentinel, Vectrolis, Allent, Weadah, Scissors Hands, Sevenflow and more.

We also added the skinning division of breed which has the following awesome skinners: Bobo, Fyreskinsjone, Juzmental, Kai, Kriptoner, Smar, Snecx, Supa and of course Zkreso the head of that crew. Of course the group is not all happiness and new members.

Some members have left breed for personal reasons. Altermind, Nuvem and Buzzhog are some of the most recent members to take a break from Breed.
